Chicago, Illinois—APA Chicago announced Michelle Russ, commercial animal photographer, has been elected to APA Chicago's board of directors. Michelle aims to establish in-person and online events to build a better community to help APA members achieve a more successful business.
"Michelle has been a staunch advocate for helping solopreneurs, like photographers, connect and find a nurturing and supportive community," said Brooke Hummer, Chicago's Chapter Chair. "We’re excited to welcome her to our board of directors, and I know that all of us will benefit from her leadership and expertise."
"I've long shared APA's vision that building a strong community has the potential to improve our members' lives," said Michelle Russ. "It's an honor to join APA Chicago's board of directors and collaborate with other like-minded photographers to bring valued programming to our members."
As an active member of the animal community, Michelle organized and hosted several fundraising events for local animal rescues, including the ever-popular Fido 500 Race. She recently founded MDRN Creative, a small collective of female photographers who have co-marketed each other to large brands.
Michelle aims to create more in-person and online events to unite APA Chicago members. "I'd like to start pairing photographers together in a way that helps them be accountable for their goals. I look forward to connecting our members online to ask questions, seek advice, share studio rentals, seek crew members, and sell gear." Also, Michelle will be working on a portfolio review idea that creates a lower cost for attendees, and she's excited by the thought of adding a Mentor/Mentee Program to assist photographers in completing personal projects, website revamps, and more.
Michelle Russ has worked professionally as a photographer for over thirteen years. She began as a fashion photographer but quickly found her true calling in animal photography. She lives in Evanston with her husband, daughter and dog.
