On September 21, award-winning photographer Lisa Sciascia will discuss her unusual career journey that started with a business degree in finance and transformed into a prolific and successful venture into fashion, beauty, and lifestyle photography. This free event will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Apple Store on North Michigan Avenue (679 N. Michigan).
Sciascia has worked as a photographer for 25 years. After earning her BBA in Finance from Emory University and studying photography at Southeastern Center for the Arts, she launched her career as a photo assistant in New York City. She now works out of both New York and Chicago where she has shot for clients such as American Girl, Coca-Cola, Columbia Records, L'Oréal, Maybelline, and Neiman Marcus, and has taken portraits of celebrities including Patrick Dempsey, Reese Witherspoon, and The Rolling Stones. Sciascia’s work was included in the 2014 APA Annual Artist’s Perspective Exhibition and she has also been recognized as the American Photography Chosen Winner in 2012, and as Second Place Fashion Category Winner in 2010 APA National and 2011 in the APA New York Photo Competition.
In her upcoming presentation at the Apple Store, Sciascia will discuss how following your passion can lead to commercial success and creative fulfillment, and how it is never too late to take a risk, change direction, and pursue your true calling. Along with sharing the wisdom she has picked up along her quarter-decade in the photography business, Sciascia will detail how over the years her iPhone has turned into an indispensable tool of her trade, not only for communications with her clients, but also in location scouting, and aesthetic inspiration.
